The Upcyclecentrum Almere gives young startups the chance to show how to process waste materials into high-quality, new products.

Towards the circular economy

Upcyclecentrum Almere is a hub of sustainable, creative startups committed to the transition from the disposable economy to a circular one. They use waste originating from the recycling platform in Almere-Haven as raw material. From this, they make unique, new products that are at least as good as the original. The startups are given two years to (further) develop their product or concept with the help of the Upcycle centre. In doing so, we set in motion the movement that ultimately leads to a closed cycle.

Upcycle Center Almere

100% Upcycled

The building housing the Upcycle Centre is located on the same site as the recycling platform. In a building made entirely of recycled materials. All parts of the building can be unscrewed and reused. The roof is fitted with solar panels that allow the building to provide its own energy. The Upcycle Centre is not only a good location for innovative startups wanting to get started with upcycling, but also a knowledge lab and meeting place. There is an attached experience centre that gives a glimpse into the circular future. This space can also be rented for meetings and other gatherings.

Co-creation with City and Nature

City & Nature has been involved in designing and implementing educational programming for the Upcycle Centre since 2018. In doing so, they work closely with the centre's (former) entrepreneurs. The aim is to show children and young people what is possible with waste, and get them excited about the circular economy.
