With its unique central location, Almere is the link between the busy Randstad and the spatial eastern and northern Netherlands. As part of the Amsterdam Metropolitan Region, the city benefits from the high urban dynamics and proximity to Amsterdam with its talent and amenities. At the same time, you also experience the peace and quiet of the countryside here. Nature is never far away in Almere.
Perfect location, always easily accessible
Its location on the A6 and A27 makes it easily accessible by car, and there are direct train connections to Amsterdam, Schiphol, The Hague, Rotterdam, Utrecht, Zwolle and Groningen. Then there is the regional bus, an efficient system that connects Almere to 't Gooi and the northern Veluwe. And from nearby Schiphol Airport, you have access to the whole world.
Plenty of plans to expand connection with Amsterdam
By train from Almere Centrum, you can be in the heart of Amsterdam in half an hour. A further improvement of the rail connection with Amsterdam and Schiphol is on the agenda for the future, with more trains per hour. This is part of the OV-SAAL project. In the long term, the ambition is to realise a metro connection between Almere and Amsterdam with the IJmeer connection, connecting to the Amsterdam metro network.
Amsterdam Metropolitan Area
Almere forms part of the Amsterdam Metropolitan Area (MRA) and is the second-largest city in the MRA after Amsterdam. The MRA boasts, amongst other things, two airports, seaports, the financial centre of the Netherlands and the AMSIX internet exchange. The MRA ranks among the top five economically strong regions in Europe. Its priorities are boosting the economy, improving accessibility and building homes. In economic terms, the Amsterdam Metropolitan Area aims to play a pioneering role in the knowledge and circular economies. Sustainability is also high on the agenda. The same applies to enhancing the region’s landscape, with a focus on expanding both recreational opportunities and the experience of nature. The Stichtsekant Business Park forms part of the Almere-Lelystad-Zeewolde Logistics Hub, which was recently designated the MRA’s number one logistics hub.
