The municipality of Almere is once again the stage of Circular Economy Week this year. From 17 to 22 March, various interesting meetings, workshops and tours can be visited throughout the city. There you can see how circular innovation and entrepreneurship work in practice, and how this contributes to more efficient use of raw materials and waste, for example.
Alderman for the Economy Maaike Veeningen: "In Almere, we ensure that as few materials as possible are wasted, and have the ambition to have a fully circular economy by 2050. Together with entrepreneurs, residents and organisations, we are making it possible for materials to be reused, rather than thrown away. The Circular Economy Week brings together enthusiastic Almere parties to show what is possible in the city, and to think about how we can further develop and innovate in this area.''
During this week, Almere will not only focus on circularity, but also on the impact of digitalisation and the role of food in a circular economy. Some of the activities include; a materials exhibition on the future of materials, a workshop on circular design or the meeting on future-proof entrepreneurship. There will also be a tour of a glass factory using circular glass, the opening of a new Food Hub in Oosterwold housed in a fully circular building and an open innovation tour including a visit to district Hortus; the former Floriade site. Almere is taking steps towards a more sustainable future throughout the year and is using this week to put an extra spotlight on those steps. By sharing knowledge and inspiration, supporting innovative businesses and organisations and actively involving residents, the city is promoting reuse and smart handling of raw materials as a new standard.
The Week of the Circular Economy is a nationwide initiative and around 275 events can be attended across the Netherlands. This year is already the tenth edition on behalf of Versnellingshuis.
