From soil improvers to biocomposite

Within the Raw Materials Collective, various projects are being worked on in the areas of CO2 reduction, sustainability and circularity. Two examples:

  • Project Soil Improver is all about converting bio-residual streams from Almere into soil improvers to be applied in the city, at local growers, by gardeners and in agriculture in the immediate vicinity. In the process, the use of artificial fertilisers and CO2/nitrogen emissions are reduced and new value and revenue models are created.
  • Project Green Gas and Biocomposite should bring a solution to rampant Aquatic Plants and in particular Pondweed that are clogging Dutch and Almere waters. Mowing, raking and disposing of aquatic plants in Gooi- and Eemmeer Lake makes no sense, and may even backfire. Therefore, the Raw Materials Collective is investigating the possibility of processing the water plants into a fibre to make a biocomposite suitable for various applications.
