Logistics and wholesale are important sectors in Almere. A large part of employment opportunities (10% of the total and 25% of that in Industrial Estates) sits within this sector. The attractiveness of establishment here for logistics companies is evident and is due to Almere’s geographical position in relation to other cities in the Netherlands, the excellent accessibility to the motorways A6 and A27 and the huge availability of Business Parks and Industrial Estates with flexible building plots. Almere, together with Lelystad and Zeewolde as the southern part of the province of Flevoland, ranks number 4 of all the logistical hotspots in the Netherlands.

Good accessibility

Almere is an attractive choice for logistics companies with both regional and national markets. Its central position within the Netherlands, the excellent accessibility and the availability of space in business parks, really makes Almere a fantastic place to establish a business. There’s a reason why Almere, along with Lelystad and Zeewolde have risen to no. 4 in the list of logistical hotspots in NL! The Stichtsekant industrial estate for instance, is part of the Logistical Hotspot Almere-Lelystad-Zeewolde that only recently was named No. 1 Logistical Hotspot by the MRA (Metropolitan Region Amsterdam).

PostNL

PostNL decided to establish a huge parcel sorting station on Business Park Stichtsekant in 2018. A plot measuring 2.3 hectares was acquired, with an extra 1 hectare right next door, for any expansion. It’s an attractive site for PostNL and they hope, with this sustainable parcel sorting station in Almere, to better anticipate the enormous growth of e-commerce.
