Vekto: Making electrical engineering understandable, for everyone

From crisis startup to frontrunner

Where most people think of complicated diagrams and tricky calculations when they think of electrical engineering, Almere-based Vekto actually makes this world clear and accessible. The secret? Smart software, customer-oriented thinking and a strong vision of simplicity. Partly because of this, the company won the title Enterprise of the Year 2024-2025 in the category Medium-sized Enterprise.

Vekto's roots lie in 2009, in the midst of the financial crisis. Founder Scott Sherratt remembers well how it began: "I wrote the software, did the administration, and stood by myself assembling machines. All at the same time." What started as a panel building specialist soon transformed into an online pioneer in electrical installation.

Everything under one roof

The first major breakthrough came with the online configuration of group boxes - a service that made Vekto accessible to installers as well as private individuals. The company now offers a complete range: from cables to switchgear, all via one platform.

Its strength lies in its simplicity. For example, the software performs complex temperature rise calculations automatically - something that normally takes 30 to 45 minutes per cabinet. "With us, this is done at the touch of a button," Sherratt says. In fact, the latest configurator is so user-friendly that even people without a technical background can effortlessly put together their installation.

Progress in software and infrastructure

In 2023, Vekto moved into its own premises at Wormerweg in Almere. That growth was accompanied by new innovations, such as the e-charging platform for charging stations. The company now also offers solutions for the installation, monitoring and invoicing of charging infrastructure. The software now also finds its way internationally - even to Brazil.

People work

Vekto is not only about technology, but also about social commitment. They work together with the Tomingroep and local schools, offering opportunities for people distanced from the labour market to enter and grow. "We are just doing our job," Sherratt says modestly, "but for this to be recognised with such a title is a huge honour."
