What started for brothers Boaz and Mica Aarsman as a hobby in the shed behind their parents' house has grown into Brothercoating, a unique, innovative startup in powder coating. With powder coating, you apply powder to metal with a spray gun to protect it from external influences, such as corrosion or scratches. But the aesthetic side of powder coating is just as important to Mica and Boaz.

100% Almere

"We are true 036-ers. Full-blooded Almeerders," Boaz proudly opens his account. "We started powder coating at home in the Wassenaarstraat in the Stedenwijk neighbourhood. As a hobby. Improvising a bit, fixing up a moped. When we made 1,000 euros profit on that, Mica and I thought: "Hey, we can do something with this." Their hobby turned into pure passion. With some extra savings, the brothers took the step towards professionalisation and moved into a business premises at Musicalstraat 12. There, they continue to work on growing their business, although small-scale remains their trade credo.

Everything is possible at Brothercoating

During the last Almere Enterprise of the Year 2023-2024 election, the brothers went home with the title for the Starter category. Brothercoating therefore stands out in many ways. Boaz: "The colour range we offer is huge, unique. Aesthetics are very important to us. In the diverse assignments we do, we always deliver customised work. The customer's personal wishes are central. There are almost no restrictions in size, shape or material."

Quick boys

"Recently, we completely custom powder-coated a friend's quad. When you then see how colour, shine and finish melt together, you really feel like an artist." Motorbike owners also know how to find Brothercoating. Boaz: "With a custom motorbike, you want to stand out from the crowd. With powder coating, you can personalise everything. We customise motorbikes completely to the owner's personal taste and style. Custom motorbikes are a form of art and expression, but also an expression of fun and passion."

Own YouTube channel

Special to mention, Boaz and Mica have taken YouTube training. Agreeing and laughing, "Watching and uploading videos for free. For us, it's a perfect platform. We have benefited a lot from it. Currently, socials - especially Instagram and TikTok - are popular channels to reach our target audience. And of course, word of mouth is very important."

Growing, innovating and diversifying together

The two brothers truly form a twosome. "Of course, sometimes you have differences of opinion. That is normal. A matter of discussing and sharing responsibilities and tasks. We always come out of it." Ambitions and plans for the future Boaz and Mica have plenty. "We are still relatively small. Grow, innovate or diversify, of course we want to. We can make a reasonable living from it now, but definitely have room for more assignments."
