"You don't expect it, we have it" is the slogan of Kabelshop.nl. The online shop - which sells much more than just cables - has experienced stormy growth since its launch in 2015. It won the prestigious Shopping Award four times in a row and the founders aim to become the largest webshop in the Netherlands. In Almere, they have all the space they need to realise their ambitious goals.

Cindy Visser, Operations Manager: "Kabelshop.nl was founded by Fouad El Yandouzi and Piotr Kreuning, two young, ambitious entrepreneurs who have a nose for recognising good deals. When they see opportunities, they seize them with both hands. They started selling cables and soon expanded the range. In our webshop, we now sell everything in the home-garden-kitchen field, such as 'Smart Home', trendy lamps and corona prevention devices. We are also strong in seasonal items. In summer, you can think of everything for a clean swimming pool and now, for the darker days of the year, we have a wide range of items in the field of burglary prevention, Christmas lights and decoration.

Rapid growth

In the beginning, Fouad and Piotr still did everything in pairs: from managing the website to packaging the products. But growth was rapid and we currently employ over 50 people. Less than a year after we were founded, we won the Shopping Award 2016, and for the following three years we also won this public award for the best webshop. Naturally, we are extremely proud of this. We score particularly well on reliability, communication and delivery speed. We have large premises on the Sallandsekant industrial estate in Almere and all items are in stock in our warehouse. This is our greatest strength, as it allows us to guarantee deliveries within one day. Ordered before 23.59, delivered next day.

Second branch

Shortly after the outbreak of the corona pandemic, the number of orders in our online shop increased tremendously. We had to pull out all the stops, as a large part of our people were working from home at the time. But we got through it fantastically with the whole team and gained many new customers from that time. In the past three months, our turnover has tripled and we have added a large number of new items to our range. To keep up with this growth, we recently bought a plot of land next to our premises. That is where we will set up our second branch.

Everyone deserves a chance

Almere is therefore the ideal location for us. There are plenty of opportunities to expand and the city is centrally located. In addition, land and property prices are a lot more favourable than in other A-locations. Another advantage of Almere is the availability of personnel. We get an average of twenty good-quality responses to vacancies in our warehouse every day. We are socially involved, our workforce is diverse, because we believe everyone deserves a chance. We cooperate with various educational institutions in Almere. For instance, we are an approved training company and have close contacts with the ROCs in the city and with Pro Almere, a school that offers practical education to young people with a disadvantage on the labour market. We recently hired a number of former students from this school and they are doing extremely well with us!

The sky is the limit

We also work very pleasantly with the municipality of Almere. Our management has regular personal contact with people from the Economic Affairs department. They like to think along with us and can advise us where necessary. That is very valuable to us. In the coming years, we want to further deepen our product range and hope for more great new collaborations with A-brands. We will also focus further on the B2B market. Our ambition extends far beyond our borders. We see plenty of opportunities, "the sky is the limit for us."
