As a young, innovative city, Almere is the ideal city for talent and companies in the tech sector. Through cooperation with entrepreneurs and education, we are trying to put Almere on the map and to grow this sector within Almere. This applies to talent, but also tech companies.
Digitisation and opportunities
Almere is a young dynamic city of over 220,000 inhabitants. A city with ambition, where a lot is already happening and will continue to happen as the city grows to 350,000 inhabitants. A city where people not only enjoy living, but also do business. With the digitalisation of society, the economy is changing. Big data analysis, artificial intelligence (AI), blockchain, 3D printing, cloud storage and computing and the Internet of Things, (IoT) are concepts that are becoming increasingly important in everyday life. Digitalisation is thus the main source of growth, innovation and new business activity.
Almere & Tech
Almere has many advantages as a major player in the Dutch tech sector:
- Large and small companies working on IoT applications and using platform technology
- A college with excellent IT education
- Proximity to Amsterdam with a large tech sector
- Fast connections and space for businesses and data centres
This provides a good breeding ground for new initiatives, training opportunities, (inter)national activity and events focused on the tech sector. And because Almere is still such a young city, there are plenty of opportunities to help build the future yourself!
Green Innovation Hub
Companies, governments, education and other organisations meet in the Green Innovation Hub. From the cross-pollination of their different ideas and expertise, the sustainable and inclusive living environment of the future is created. An example of this is the Minecraft Pampus Challenge, in which, over the next eighteen months, hundreds of young people will have the opportunity to help think about major social issues in the yet-to-be-realised Pampus district. They will build this district with a special version of Minecraft Education Edition.
