Almere is one of the front runners when you speak of sustainable industry. Sustainability is a very niche market that is about to explode, and it offers Almere the chance to attract more employment opportunities. There are distinctions between primary, supporting and indirectly sustainable industries. Primary industry ensures a closed circle of raw materials usage, and it forms the very heart of this circular economy. Supporting sustainable employment is on the increase and enables the scaling up of the already mentioned primary sustainables. Indirect sustainable employment refers to the service sectors, delivering to the primary and supportive industries.

Why Almere?

In Almere we are working on the circular economy. Together with entrepreneurs, residents and organizations, we develop various activities to prevent waste flows and to promote the reuse of raw materials. We facilitate new circular activity through innovative tenders and stimulate cooperation between circular entrepreneurs in the city and in the region. One of Almere's ambitions is to become a city without waste. In concrete terms, this means that we only have an average of 50 kilos of residual waste left per person per year in Almere. New raw materials and new products are then made from this waste.
