I am Material: Biofabrication on Thursday 12 February
I am Material: Biofabrication introduces you to materials made by fungi and bacteria. On Thursday 12 February, during lectures and presentations, you will discover what biofabrication means for sustainable building and material innovation.
Biofabrication is a rapidly emerging field in which living organisms such as fungi, bacteria and yeasts are used as manufacturers of new materials. During this afternoon event, you will gain insight into the opportunities and challenges of these bio-based materials for the construction industry. Experts from research, design and policy will share their knowledge on applications such as mycelium insulation, biocomposites, coatings and self-repairing materials. You will discover what these innovations add to conventional building materials and what is realistically applicable in the short term. Besides inspiring lectures, there will be room for meeting, discussion and viewing an exhibition.
